ZENNER at the Smart City Expo World Congress 2025
Published: 21. Oct 2025The Smart City Expo World Congress (SCEWC) 2025 will take place in Barcelona from 4 to 6 November and is regarded worldwide as the leading event for smart cities and digital transformation.
Saarbrücken, October 2025. ZENNER will be presenting solutions for smart water networks and urban applications at the SCEWC at the LoRa Alliance stand. These solutions support cities around the world in meeting challenges such as population growth, increasing resource consumption and climate change with resilient structures. These scalable smart city concepts are based on the globally established LoRaWAN® wireless standard, which efficiently connects devices and sensors.
Smart water networks with LoRaWAN®
ZENNER has been developing innovative technologies for water management for decades. One example is the IUWS ultrasonic domestic water meter, which transmits measurement data in parallel via LoRaWAN® and Wireless M-Bus. To support water suppliers worldwide in switching to digital radio-based meter reading, ZENNER has also developed the complete Metering as a Service (MaaS) solution for economical and comprehensive remote reading of water meters.
“MaaS offers water suppliers the easiest entry point into digitalisation. With the integration of additional sensors and devices, sustainable and resilient water systems can be built and even flood protection solutions can be integrated”,
explains René Claussen, Head of Business Unit Metering Systems, IoT and Digital Solutions at ZENNER.
MaaS supports water suppliers in efficiently managing processes in the field of water management and at the same time lays the foundation for variable water tariffs.
ZENNER: International driver of LoRaWAN®
As a smart water solution provider, ZENNER now offers a portfolio of solutions that enable water suppliers to digitise numerous processes in water management, from digital meter reading and water quality monitoring to flood protection. In addition to solutions for water management, the company is also promoting resilience with other applications in smart cities. These include, for example, solutions for monitoring air quality and optimising waste disposal. Intelligent parking space management, energy-efficient building management and digital monitoring of weather and environmental data are also part of the portfolio.
What all applications have in common is that they collect data via LoRaWAN®, transmit it to IoT platforms such as ZENNER’s Element Suite, and process it there. Dashboards provide clear visualisations that enable cities and utilities to efficiently control their infrastructures.
“LoRaWAN® technology offers reliable, energy-efficient connectivity for cities and is the backbone of many smart city initiatives”,
emphasises Jan-Philipp Exner, Senior Project Engineer Smart City at ZENNER.
The ZENNER Group currently operates the world’s largest LoRaWAN® network, with availability in 15 countries. To date, the company has successfully implemented more than 400 smart city projects. This makes ZENNER one of the leading drivers of LoRaWAN® technology worldwide.
