Get Started with Smart Metering

Smart metering plays a central role in driving the digitalization of the energy transition. The main goal is to create greater transparency, enabling consumption analysis and sustainable optimization of consumption behavior. This helps conserve resources such as energy, water, or gas. To achieve this, a large volume of data must be transmitted securely, reliably, and at short intervals.

ZENNER’s smart solutions provide future-proof metering for all your requirements, giving you the full benefits of digital remote reading:

  • Improved data quality through digital readings
  • Elimination of reading errors
  • Reduction of reading costs
  • Short reading intervals (e.g. every 15 minutes)
  • Availability of data for precise consumption and cost analyses
  • Integration of smart sensors

By digitally capturing and transmitting consumption and status data, you can implement smart applications such as leak detection, monitoring of water or heat networks, control of smart valves, or reading of hard-to-access meters.

Reading meters in underground shafts

The efficiency gains that can be achieved with automated reading of your water meters with LoRaWAN® is particularly evident in the case of water meters installed in underground shafts.

Submetering with LoRaWAN®

By combining three solution components, submetering can be implemented in the future via the intelligent metering system (iMSys).

A LoRaWAN® network offers municipal utilities, energy suppliers, cities, and communities many options for streamlining processes, using resources more efficiently, and enabling new Smart City applications.

Smart City
  • Integration of sensors to implement further use cases in water supply or district heating
  • Measuring water quality or monitoring environmental data
  • Monitoring transformer stations or intelligently controlling street lighting.

All of these applications contribute to making neighbourhoods and cities smarter. The Smart Meter Gateway (SMGW) as a data centre provides the necessary security.

With LoRaWAN®, municipal utilities and energy providers can fully digitalize their metering operations across all sectors. This digital infrastructure allows them to expand their business areas – for example, by offering submetering services for third parties or operating as a full-service provider.
