LoRaWAN® Live in Munich: IoT solutions for smart cities, smart buildings and utilities

From 19 to 20 June 2024, the world’s leading LoRaWAN® providers and newcomers will meet at this year’s only LoRaWAN® Live Event in Munich. Organised by the LoRa Alliance, companies will present the latest developments and solutions related to LoRaWAN® wireless technology. As a gold sponsor of the event, ZENNER will be on site every day.

Saarbrücken, May 2024. The LoRa Alliance is a global association of companies that have made it their mission to promote and develop the open LoRaWAN® wireless standard. ZENNER has been an active member and sponsor of the LoRa Alliance for several years. LoRaWAN® is an international, open wireless standard that was developed specifically for Internet of Things (IoT) applications.  The technology stands out for its high transmission range and building penetration. LoRaWAN® consumes very little energy during transmission and is therefore ideal for battery-operated sensors and measuring devices. Together with other members of the LoRa Alliance, at the event ZENNER will be presenting, among other things, IoT use cases for smart cities, smart buildings and municipal utilities and their possible applications in one of the largest LoRaWAN® networks in Europe.

ZENNER has one of the largest LoRaWAN® networks in Europe

ZENNER’s LoRaWAN® network service currently comprises just over one hundred thousand LoRaWAN® gateways and over seven million sensors. ZENNER Connect, a Minol-ZENNER Group company, operates the corresponding LoRaWAN® network for this purpose. The service is offered in 15 countries: “These conditions mean we can provide our customers with a large portfolio of meters, sensors and gateways. Customers benefit from the many years of expertise our team has, which supports the implementation of practical use cases for smart cities, smart buildings and utilities,” explains Boris Stöckermann, Director of New Business Areas & eCommerce Europe in the Minol-ZENNER Group.

“In collaboration with our partners throughout the Minol-ZENNER Group, we are able to offer our customers comprehensive digital solutions for the cross-sector digitalisation of the energy transition. This allows us to further expand the use of LoRaWAN® together and develop new solutions,” adds Stöckermann. ZENNER offers sustainable and practical IoT solutions for industries and suppliers that can be put into effect with minimal effort. In an already-existing LoRaWAN® network with the corresponding gateways, existing solutions can be scaled up quickly and economically, or new IoT solutions can be easily added.

A variety of IoT solutions with LoRaWAN®

ZENNER has been focussing on the Internet of Things with the use of LoRaWAN® for almost ten years. This enables the realisation of numerous sustainable applications with wireless technology: “With a well-developed wireless network, LoRaWAN® offers a solid basic infrastructure for many tasks. As wireless technology is now widely used, there is a suitable sensor system for almost every application,” explains Dr Jan-Philipp Exner, Senior Project Manager Smart City at ZENNER.

Possible use cases for smart cities include intelligent waste management (smart waste), needs-based control of public lighting (smart lighting) and intelligent parking (smart parking). The technology can also be used to read consumption meters or use smart sensors to keep an eye on groundwater levels and water levels in flowing or standing water or to monitor water quality. “Our common goal is to present LoRaWAN® as a sustainable technology for all industries and to demonstrate the strengths of the technology through practical examples,” explains Marcus Kirchdörfer, Managing Director of ZENNER Connect.
